Sydney - Blue Mountains
Sydney - Blue Mountains
Blue Mountain

Just 65 km west of Sydney stretch the Blue Mountains, the chain that divides the populated coastal plain bordered by beaches from the flat and hard land of Australia. The chain was an effective barrier to early explorers of the colony, whose efforts to conquer this part of the Mountains were thwarted by the sharped cliffs of sandstone. Footprints of the trio, who in 1813 successfully found narrow past, are now followed by the main street that goes west of Sydney, Great Western Highway. Today, the pioneers  Blaxland, Wentworth and Lawson  are recalled in the names of cities located along the highway that winds through the mountains. Only in 1920 it happened that this country primitive and unique to turn in to a contemporary holiday location for today residents of Sydney's.

They are actually a sandstone plateau that reaches a height of only about 1100 meters. Erosion made stones to fall and form steep cliffs dotted by some picturesque waterfalls. Blue Mountains National Park, with a total of 247,000 hectares, is served by walking trails and places for picnics and camping.

Experienced at the top is breathtaking Scenic Railway , which descends to a gorge clothed with trees, and is thought about to be the steepest railway in the world. There's lots of paths for day walking throughout the area  an excellent choice is climbing the Golden Stairs by the rock formations known as the Ruined Castle.
